Chris While and Julie Matthews, the undisputed queens of British folk duos, have been a leading force in the singer/songwriter scene for over 30 years. Renowned for their seamless harmonies, immaculate musicianship, and infectious stage energy, they’ve performed over 3,000 gigs, appeared on 100+ albums, and written hundreds of original songs that resonate worldwide. Their latest album, Days Like These (September 2024), celebrates their 30-year collaboration, delivering fresh, powerful folk with melodies that linger and lyrics that touch the heart.
Hailed by The Guardian for their “to die for harmonies” and by Froots as “awesomely talented,” Chris (vocals, guitar, banjo, dulcimer, bodhran) and Julie (vocals, piano, guitar, mandolin, bouzouki) are masterful performers, producers, and arrangers. Their songs, covering themes from love to injustice, are performed with unrivaled passion, earning them a devoted global fanbase and accolades like the 2009 BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Best Duo.
In 2025, they continue to captivate with a packed tour and a standout feature in BBC Radio 2’s 21st Century Folk series, themed around Trains and Railways. Inspired by Tom Yeo, a foundling left at Reading railway station in 1965, they crafted a poignant new single, The Waiting Room, released July 28, 2025. The duo performed it live on The Jeremy Vine Show and featured on BBC1’s The One Show, marking their primetime TV debut. The emotional performance, alongside folk luminaries like Richard Thompson and Kate Rusby, showcases their ability to weave real-life stories into unforgettable music.
With 13 studio albums, two live albums, and two Best Of collections, their music remains vital and inspiring. Internationally acclaimed, they’ve graced stages in North America, Australasia, and Europe, winning ‘Artists of the Year’ at Australia’s Port Fairy Music Festival in 2018. Don’t miss their live stream, where their boundless energy, stunning vocals, and heartfelt songwriting will light up your screen.
