Fire & Dust: A Woody Guthrie Story

Reg Meuross & The Strike

Commissioned and produced by Pete Townshend, Fire & Dust: A Woody Guthrie Story is a powerful musical journey through the life and legacy of one of folk music’s most influential voices.

Award winning singer songwriter Reg Meuross brings Woody Guthrie’s story to life through song, narrative and rich musical storytelling. Described by Pete Townshend as “folk music at its best”, the production traces Guthrie’s fight against injustice, racism and inequality while reflecting on the struggles that still shape our world today.

For this performance Reg is joined by members of his touring band The Strike, a name inspired by the spirit of collective action that runs through Guthrie’s work. The trio features acclaimed Welsh pianist and accordionist Geraint Watkins, whose career includes collaborations with Nick Lowe, Van Morrison, Paul McCartney and Mark Knopfler, alongside celebrated multi instrumentalist Marion Fleetwood, known for her work with TRADarrr, IOTA and The Sandy Denny Project.

Blending original songs written by Meuross with some of Guthrie’s own classics, Fire & Dust creates an intimate and moving portrait of the American folk icon. The performance weaves music, history and storytelling into a deeply human exploration of one artist’s voice and the enduring power of protest song.

Praised by Ralph McTell as “an outstanding Woody Guthrie project” and described as “a stunning tribute from one great folk artist to another”, this is a compelling evening of folk music and social history.

Expect powerful songs, masterful musicianship and the spirit of Woody Guthrie carried forward for a new generation.
